The next tip is to use an end sealer on posts. The wood can either be dipped or painted with the sealer. This sealer will extend the life of your deck by sealing up the end grain. Lastly, it is a good practice to use joist tape to seal off vulnerable spots from the rain. This includes on all joists and ledger boards. The tape can simply be peeled and stuck right to the top.
